Position Vacancy:
Coordinator of Attendance, Truancy and Discipline

Qualifications:
1.  Five Years of Successful Teaching and/or Administrative Experience
2.  Master's Degree from an Accredited University
3.  Valid South Carolina Educator's Credential 


JOB DESCRIPTION:
Coordinator of Attendance, Truancy, and Discipline Responsibilities Attendance:

• Review and respond to requests for students to attend CCSD from outside of the district and permission for students to attend a district other than CCSD

• Maintain attendance brochures for schools

• Meet with attendance clerks regularly to discuss procedures

• Meet with other groups to discuss attendance and truancy, such as nurses, guidance, and administration as needed

• Coordinate with, PowerSchool Coordinator, for reports, proper coding, etc.

• Locate students who are not attending school, according to attendance guidelines

• Conduct home visits

• Responsible for McKinney Vento students

• Responsible for the district's School Choice process

• Settle disputes regarding attendance lines and schools of service

• Respond to residential and education affidavits 

Truancy

• Liaison to DSS and DJJ for truant students

• Provide procedures, letters, and guidance for school attendance clerks

• Attend Family Court once a month to testify in truancy cases

• Attend DJJ staff meetings

• Collect data from schools/attendance clerks to identify truancy issues

• Conduct home visits Discipline:

• Conduct expulsion hearings

• Conduct investigations for hearing determinations

• Correspond hearing decisions with schools and families

• Conduct appeal hearings for OSS

• Investigate appeals for OSS

• Correspond OSS appeal decisions with schools and families

• Work closely with principals to provide a smooth transition during discipline determinations • Revise codes of conduct annually

• Provide ongoing guidance and clarification for discipline within schools

• Monitor and support PBIS programs in all schools

• Work with Student Services to calculate and complete the annual discipline and expulsion report for the SCDE Dropout:

• Identify dropouts at each school, contact them via phone, and conduct home visits to encourage them to enroll back in school

• Work with the PowerSchool Coordinator to calculate and complete the SCDE dropout report Additional Skills and Responsibilities:

• Provide clear communication with school and district-level officials, attendance clerks, and parents

• Strong organizational skills

• Conduct themselves in a professional manner

• Strong command of Microsoft applications

• Conduct investigations of any degree in a clear and logical sequence

• Display a firm understanding of State attendance, truancy, discipline, and educational law • Present attendance, truancy, and discipline data monthly for Principals’ meetings

• Discuss any issues or concerns of attendance and discipline at monthly Principals’ meetings

• Attend any state meetings/conferences as required

• Meets monthly with the Director of Student Services

 

Salary Range:
$65,000 - $85,000 - Annually 

LENGTH OF CONTRACT:   233 Days (12 Months) 

FLSA Status:  Exempt
